The Greek translation of Psalm 80:3 is remarkable. I am drawn to the words, “ἐπίφανον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου”. Which is translated to, “Let your face appear” in English. Many of the translations render this as, “Let your face shine”. I am always looking for the prophecy of the coming of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. I love it. The entire Old Testament points to Jesus Christ. However, as time passes and the more I read, I realize that Jesus Christ is the very Hope and Salvation for all, even in the Old Testament.
O God, turn towards us, and let your face appear, and we shall be delivered.

Reading these verses in Greek offers a new perception of the verse. Instead of using the word shine, which is to say the countenance of the LORD shining on you. “ἐπίφανον” can also be translated as “appear”. The meaning and what the Psalmist is hoping for becomes greater to me. The ancients hoped to see the appearance of the Messiah. I truly believe that we live in an amazing time, as the Hope of the coming Messiah has been fulfilled by the Son Jesus Christ. The same Hope of the Ancients that had long since been written about. It is extraordinary that the Salvation that was continually offered to those in the Old Testament remains available to all. No longer do we have to present offerings before the LORD for forgiveness. God Almighty came to the Earth in a body and gave Himself as a sin offering. How great is the love that The Father has for us to send His only Son. The Invisible God who took on a visible form in a body like ours (Colossians 1:15). I simply believe in the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and I am saved. What a true gift of Mercy, Salvation, and Infinite Grace for an undeserving repentant sinner like me. The gift of Salvation is for all. May the Holy Spirit open our eyes and lead us into all truth of the Salvation on Jesus Christ.
